April - Oh, April.....

...der weiss nicht was er will.
Bald lacht der Himmel blau und rein,
bald schaun die Wolken düster drein,
bald Regen und bald Sonnenschein!
April! April!
Der weiss nicht was er will!

April!  April!
He really doesn't know what he wants!

Oh weh!  Oh weh!
Nun kommt er gar mit Hagel-Schnee
und schneit mir in den Blütenbaum,

ganz greulich ist's, man glaubt es kaum:
Heut' Hagel, Frost und Blitze
und morgen vieleicht Hitze?

April, April - Der weiss nicht was er will!

My poor Peony....

Thunder storms and hale storm today

and with a bit of sunshine...

 ...one hour later all gone...
until the next 'surprise'!

April - Oh April, what a capricious month!

"The sun was warm but the wind was chill.
You know how it is with an April day.
When the sun is out and the wind is still,
You're one month on in the middle of May.
But if you so much as dare to speak,
a cloud come over the sunlit arch,
And wind comes off a frozen peak,
And you're two months back in the middle of March."
-  Robert Frost, Two Tramps in Mud Time, 1926

But then:

"A cold April brings us bread and wine"
 and
"April showers bring May flowers"

With this in mind.....Bonne Semaine!

  3. Liebe Karin,

Ja April - April in Reinform!

    Herzliche Grüße!

  4. Hallo Karin, sei nicht traurig, das Wetter kann nur besser werden. selbst bei uns in Freiburg, der angeblich wärmsten Ecke Deutschlands, sieht das Wetter derzeit so aus.

  5. Poor peony....hopefully it is large enough that its interior was protected. We used to get surprised in NY as well with late season weather snaps. I feel for you!

  6. Karin,
Your garden is lovely whether in rain or hail or snow or sun! At least you are receiving the well-needed rain.

    Tree peonies= pure bliss.

I don't know your love tree- it is new to me!
    Thanks for sharing and educating.

  7. April certainly does blow hot and cold. Things change from one minute to the next. Your poor peony looks quite battered.

  8. Oh my goodness Karin, your poor peonies! We have also had rain, wind hail and extreme cold, but the garden isn't quite as advanced as yours yet.

  9. Dear Karin, Especially this time of year, when our gardens first wake up, it is so sad to have hail and cold destroy your lovely peonies. We have had so many nights of below freezing, and still more to come. Hopefully, your weather will improve.

  10. This year the weather has been strange everywhere. Hopefully your beautiful peony is recovering and will surprise you with a gorgeous bloom. I guess we all have our hopes up with the onset of spring and then a nasty storm brings us back to reality quickly. But as spring advances into summer we will all be enjoying our beautiful gardens. I'm hoping a much needed April shower has blessed your garden with an abundance of June blooms. xx
