I'm dreaming.....

...of a white winter,

just like the one I use to know......

And like the one we had three years ago....

...when La Pouyette was covered in snow

But, apart from a few wonderful frosty mornings,
this winter here, so far, it's grey, grey, drizzling and very mild.
A weather like "neither fish nor meat" - boring!
Although, this is rather normal for our region,
we don't have really long and cold winters in the South-West of France,
I like to have some snow for a week or two, or even only for a few days
when everything is quiet and calm, the nature falls into a winter sleep
and the world seems to be so peaceful.

So, I keep dreaming.....

...of a white winter...

-1-

"Out of the bosom of the Air,
Out of the cloud-folds of her garments shaken,
Over the woodlands brown and bare,
Over the harvest-fields forsaken,
Silent, and soft, and slow
Descends the snow..."

-5-

"Even as our cloudy fancies take
Suddenly shape in some divine expression,
Even as the troubled heart doth make
In the white countenance confession,
The troubled sky reveals
The grief it feels.."

-6-

"This is the poem of the air,
Slowly in silent syllables recorded;
This is the secret of despair,
Long in its cloudy bosom hoarded,
Now whispered and revealed
To wood and field."
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)

Snow at La Pouyette 2009

A bientôt

P.S. Oskar's broken leg is improving, but he still has to live partly in his prison cell,
Mr. B and me caught a flu/cold, my laptop caught a bug and crashed down 2 weeks ago,
the main computer slowed down enormously (the PC doctor is coming today),
the whole house seems to be a hospital ward :) :)
So far I was not able to have a proper look at all your wonderful blogs and writing comments,
it took/takes ages to download anything.
Hopefully I'll catch up with all of you very soon.

  3. So much beauty, Karin. I love that poem. Yes, it has been the same here too. I never thought that I would wish for the mistral winds to shake things up but I do! I am going to the States to visit next month and am so hoping for snow.

It seems like everyone is sick right now. Please take care of yourselves and a bisous to Oskar please!

  4. Such a beautiful mosaic of photos, Karin. And, the long mane of the horse makes me long for this kind of winter just one more time. I'm so happy to hear Oskar is doing better. You and Mr. will be returning to normal soon, I know. Sending love from balmy Houston, Texas....

  8. Gorgeous, gorgeous pictures, Karin. La Pouyette under snow is magical. I totally agree with you - this mild winter, neither fish nor fowl, is totally boring! This is my sixth winter in Britain and the first without snow (thus far). I miss it and still hope for it, but time is running out! Maybe the best we can do is to look forward to spring at this point - I still have high hopes of seeing you post photos of a healthy and sprightly Oskar out of his prison and up a tree in the spring sunshine!!

  9. Gorgeous snowy scenes. We don't get much winter here, either, but I do like a few nice snowfalls. And Longfellow's poem about snow is one of my favourites.

I hope you all start to feel much better, soon.

  10. So silently beautiful. Enjoyed this post very much.

We've hardly had any snow here in New Jersey. We had a bit of it a few days ago, but it's mostly all gone. Very unusual. Fish nor fowl is right. :)

  11. Dearest Karin ~
So sorry to hear you were "under the weather"....and "snowed under by virus of human and computer kind"!!!

Always good to get an update of Oskar and glad he is continuing to heal!

Georgia has not received much of anything either...very similar to your weather..although we have had some bad storms and tornadoes in the SouthEast USA.

Looking forward to sunny spring and flowers in bloom...looking forward to catching up soon!
    blessings,
    Martha

  12. I'm so sorry that your whole householld is sick but I am glad to hear Oskar's leg is improving. Poor little guy must hate being cooped up all the time. We're having a very mild winter as well but I like it like this little snow!

    Feel Better!

  13. Oh Karin, your pictures are wonderful and seeing La Pouyette with snow a few years ago is magical. I hope you and Mr.B are feeling better now...seems this bug is worldwide! I am happy to hear that Oskar's leg is improving. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that he becomes a bit more of an indoor kitty after going through all this. He might have acquired a taste of a more pampered life...absolutely nothing wrong with that! Thank you for reminding me of this wonderful Longfellow poem, it is so beautiful. You posted this on my birthday which, here in southern California, was a gorgeous 85 degree day...way above average for us too. Feel better!
