A Greek Wedding

   'By Invitation Only'

  our theme this month:
WEDDINGS
weddings of any kind, any place, any time, old or new, ours or someone else's,
or the philosophy of weddings and all that goes with weddings,
so you see we can run far afield if we like.

***

Over years and years I used to go on holiday to the Greek Islands
and dreamed of having my Wedding and Honey Moon on one of the islands....

As things turned out when I did finally got married here in France,
Greece was 'far away'.....!

So, my contribution to this monthly post:

A Greek Wedding

*

"....Viki and Niko would never have met if it weren’t for the wish of Viki’s godmother to help her find someone special. The fact that she had intended to introduce Viki to a different man altogether is, of course, besides the point. As it happened when Viki’s godmother brought her to a dance to meet the intended special someone, they ran into her godmother’s dear friend who also happened to be good friends with Niko and his family. On the spot, the two matchmakers decided to change the plan, and brought Viki and Niko together. The rest is history…
After their first date at Fugakyu in Brookline, they enjoyed a wonderful courtship, getting to know each other’s family and friends and falling deeply in love. Niko proposed on July 26, 2008 at the St. George Hotel’s rooftop restaurant in Athens, Greece.
Given the season (December), Viki chose burgundy as her primary color with accents of cream and gold. She brought special touches to her day with many Greek traditions incorporated into their celebration, such as writing the names of unwed girlfriends on the bottom of her shoe. Viki and Niko now share their anniversary day with Niko’s parents and honored them at the reception with photos from their wedding as well as their own cake....."

  3. I thought you were sitting out this month, lovie? But am so happy you did not. Could anything be happier than a Greek wedding, no definitely not. I once had a girlfriend who was Greek but lived in Houston...there is a big orthodox church there...and she fully embraced everything from that culture. She was the best hostess in the world. She was my best friend, like a sister. She passed away in 2002 and your post made me smile with happy remembrances. Thank you, Karin....

  9. Santorini and Hydra hold wonderful memories for me - in the days before I met my significant other. But there is no greater place for romance than the place where you look into your soul mates eyes and notice that they say, "i love you.....totally and unconditionally".

  16. Sas efcharisto, Karin! What a wonderful surprise to be greeted by these photos. I realized we haven't been in touch since your last email toward the end of May. In one of the photos of Mykonos I can almost see myself on the patio where the clothes are on the line! Sigh......

I hope you have had a good visit to Germany? Oskar will be be delighted to see you walk in the door, I'll bet!

Please send me a note when you are settled in at home. (My eyes are looking at my lovely linen.)

    ..with affection,

  19. Hello Karin

I have always had a passion for Greek music, culture and I have meet some wonderful Grecian people. I have had opportunities to visit Greece for a week or two but I am still holding off as I know I want to spend a least one month there. One day soon, I shall go.

The sound of Moustaki's voice transports me to my imagined Greece and Anthony Quinn dancing literally had me dancing.

Many thanks for a delightful post

I know I will be re-reading and listing to the music again

    Helen xx
