Reflection - Good Friday 2016 - Karfreitag

"I heard a thousand blended notes,
While in a grove I sate reclined,
In that sweet mood when pleasant thoughts
Bring sad thoughts to the mind.

To her fair works did Nature link
The human soul that through me ran;
And much it grieved my heart to think

What man has made of man.

Through primrose tufts, in that green bower,
The periwinkle trailed its wreaths;
And ’tis my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes.

The birds around me hopped and played,
Their thoughts I cannot measure:—
But the least motion which they made
It seemed a thrill of pleasure.
The budding twigs spread out their fan,

To catch the breezy air;
And I must think, do all I can,
That there was pleasure there.

If this belief from heaven be sent,
If such be Nature’s holy plan,
Have I not reason to lament
What man has made of man?"

Despite the present circumstances in Brussel,
in Europe... Middle East... Far East....and...
in the whole world....

We wish this world a peaceful Easter,
as peaceful as it can be.

  2. You adapt Wordsworth's lament with gorgeous arguments for hope and strength of resolution, and flood the mind with ardent life. I have never seen this poet more perfectly conveyed, as the illustrations read him aloud. Happy Easter with much gratitude for your generosity.

  4. I discovered and have followed your fabulous blog for over a year. It is no coincidence that what you find inspiration from in Central Europe is the same for those of us across the Atlantic, across the United States, perching on the Pacific Ocean. These ongoing horrific events cannot deter the basic human premise, that we are all connected, and more alike than different.

  5. Wordsworth's words are just as true today as when he penned them, sad to say. Easter is full of hope and we must cling to that in these horrific times. Happy Easter, dear Karin.
